With old vines stamped all over it, fruit is not the star of the show. There is nothing shouty or domineering about this old vine Boal de Barreiro. It is a whisperer of wine lovers, with its slow burn, lingering palate. Unfurling, it reveals beguiling bath salt and herbal riffs, with super-subtle inflections of orchard fruit and lemon fruit. 4,000 bottles made.

Boal de Barreiro

From a sandy, one-hectare parcel of centenarian Boal de Barreiro, the wines are made by third generation winemakers, Pedro and Luís Camacho Simões. The must was barrel-fermented in in French Oak barriques (primary and malolactic fermentation), prior to lees-ageing with a vigorous bâtonnage for 6 months.

Serve chilled at 10-12ºC.
