Collection: Herdade do Rocim

Alentejo

Catarina Vieira and Pedro Ribeiro reflect today’s generation of highly trained & well-travelled Portuguese wine growers. Born in Lisbon, Catarina caught the wine bug from her grandfather who grew grapes & made wine.  She has worked and studied viticulture and winemaking in Italy as well as Portugal.  Pedro studied winemaking in Portugal and has made wine at Hardy’s in McLaren Vale Australia.

Highly capable, Catarina was put in charge of Herdade do Rocim when it was founded by her late father, José Ribeiro Vieira in 2000.  Pedro, her partner, joined her in 2013 and this power couple have turbo-charged the range, whilst refining the wines themselves.  Less reliant on extraction and oak, the Vidigueira sub-region’s freshness animates the white and red wines. Making wine in traditional talha (large amphorae) and innovative ‘clay barrels’ has become a speciality and Rocim host an annual Amphora Wine Day around 11 November (St Martin’s Day), which we highly recommend you attend!

Rocim’s vineyards are certified organic and the estate has also been certified for sustainable production.
