Vinho Verde

João Camizão’s family has made Vinho Verde in the Amarante and Sousa sub-regions since the 18th century. In 2012, the former telecommunications engineer launched Sem Igual together with his wife Leila, who worked in hospitality.

 ‘Sem Igual’ (meaning without equal or different) captures the couple’s boundary-pushing Vinho Verde label perfectly.

 Focused on texture, body and ageing potential, the concentration and mouthfeel of the first 2012 ‘proof of concept’ incarnation impressed on its release in 2015.

 Since 2016 the couple have refined the style, picking a little earlier better to represent the freshness of region and grapes. They have found the perfect sweet spot! Only the cream of the crop of estate fruit makes the cut for Sem Igual; the balance is sold off.
