Campolargo Baga Castelão
Campolargo Baga Castelão
Red | Bairrada | 2016 | 13%
Traditional local varieties Baga (60%) and Castelão Nacional (40%) bring what Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot - another Campolargo speciality - offer to Bordeaux blends. Well-structured, assertive, Baga brings attack and line, with fresh blackberry fruit. Castelão fleshes out the mid-palate with plummy fruit, softening the edges and making for delicious approachability. Positively autumnal in flavour spectrum, with savoury roast chestnut, pine forest floor and the insinuating, wispy smokiness so typical of Baga grown on chalky clay soils. Sweeping and sooty, the tannins are present but fine-grained. With clean, balanced acidity to the finish, this mellow fellow is in a lovely drinking window.
